God Is Wiser than Men The music selected served as a contrast between the wisdom of God and the wisdom of man. God offers a Sweet, Sweet Spirit as opposed to man’s bitter, bitter spirit. Instead of The Bond of Love, man opts for the bond of dissension and division. Christians celebrate being A Child of the King, while non-Christians continue being children of the Devil. No wonder they are so angry and so involved in class warfare, which is Un-American, Un-Biblical, and Un-Christian. We rejoiced to receive a young lady for membership upon her baptism soon. Alastair Cook was welcomed with open arms. Alastair lives at 2602 Elm, and was invited to Mighty Rivers by her friend, Maria Phillips.
Gracia Burnham Will Be Here this Sunday For days we have looked forward to this coming Sunday. We are so excited to have Gracia and her parents, Rev. Norvin and Betty Jo Jones, with us. The hour will be given to Gracia almost completely. We will start with an organ prelude, sing one hymn, do our offering and play the six minute DVD that introduces Gracia. She will take it from there. Children’s Director, April Moore, wants to keep the boys and girls and her workers in the congregation to hear Gracia. We probably will not have the children’s moments with Bonnie this Sunday in order to gain maximum time from Gracia. Gracia and her parents will arrive Saturday, and they will be guests in the home of Timmy and Stephanie Gibson in Cape Girardeau. Sandy will serve Sunday dinner. Please remember that Gracia is devoting her life now to her Foundation for missionary work. A special envelope will be included with Sunday’s worship folder for use in participating in her ministry. A Word from Amber about the Valentine Banquet Come one, come all to the Valentine Banquet!. Last year’s celebration of “Love” was such a hit, we’re doing it again! Remember, this is not just for couples; everyone is invited. Let’s put on our best red or pink attire and celebrate love!!! The banquet will be held February 19 at 6:00 pm in JC’s Hall. It will include a dinner (hosted by the Cooking Team) of—Cairo High Spaghetti, Garlic Bread, Salad, Drink, and Dessert. In addition, door prizes will be handed out all evening, and there will be a dinner show provided by the wonderfully talented members of our congregation. At inter-mission, we will play “Wedded Bliss” (aka “The Newly Wed Game”), and then Tony and Erikia Davis will retire their crowns and announce the 2012 Mr. and Mrs. Mighty Rivers. There is a sign up sheet at the back of the Church, or you can call the church office to reserve your seat. The cost is the usual Big Sunday Dinner price of $7 with profits going to our children’s fund.
There are also sign-ups for Talent Performers and door prize donors, along
with a Mr. and Mrs. Mighty Rivers Nomination |
Notes Dear Larry and Sandy, Enclosed check for trip to Branson. Looking forward
to being with my Cairo friends. Thanks for the newsletter. I sure enjoy
reading all the great things going on there. “We have peace today—not
because there are no storms in the world, but because the Lord is our
peace in the midst of the storm. We had a nice note from Patsy Morrow, with her reservation and a comment about how much fun even being on the bus is when we go to Branson. See you soon, Patsy! All were so glad they came. Men at Work last week featured Jason Spaulding fixing one of the bells and whistles on Big Blue which is perfect again; Don McGinness solved an electrical problem that kept throwing breakers when the coffee pot was on; and Meric Hawkins did a fabulous job cleaning out and organizing the storeroom in the Activity Center. The before and after are just amazing. Life Lesson #5—Life is like a grand supermarket. There are 1000s of choices. As you go up and down the aisles, take what you want, take everything you want, but remember, you have to pay for all of it when you check out. January is history—February starts with Courageous at 7:00. |
